Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about lashes, lifts, brows & booking at Beauty Time.

Booking & Your First Visit

How do I book an appointment at Beauty Time?

You can book online 24/7 right from our website — just choose your studio (Barrhaven or Kanata), your service, and a time that works for you. New clients are always welcome. Prefer to call? Reach Barrhaven at (613) 777-8989 or Kanata at (343) 297-9797.

Where are you located?

We have two Ottawa studios: Barrhaven — 71 Marketplace Ave, Nepean, ON K2J 5G4, and Kanata — 462 Hazeldean Rd, Unit 17, Kanata, ON K2L 1V3. Both have free on-site parking.

What are your hours?

Barrhaven: Mon–Fri 9–7, Sat 9–5, Sun 10–2. Kanata: Mon–Sat 9–6, Sun closed.

Do you take walk-ins?

We work by appointment so every client gets our full attention, but you can book online anytime — we often have same-day or next-day openings.

What should I do to prepare for my first lash appointment?

Please arrive with clean lashes — no eye makeup, mascara, or oily skincare around the eyes. Skip caffeine for a few hours beforehand (it can cause the eyes to flutter), wear your glasses instead of contacts, and plan to relax with your eyes closed during the service.

How long will my appointment take?

A full set of lash extensions takes about 1.5–2 hours, and longer for a fuller volume set. A refill runs roughly 60–90 minutes depending on the volume, a lash lift takes about 45–60 minutes, and microblading or brow services run about 2–2.5 hours including brow mapping.

Is there parking?

Yes — free on-site parking at both our Barrhaven and Kanata studios.

Can I bring my child or a guest?

Because we work close to the eyes with fine, sharp tools, we kindly ask that you come on your own where possible — it keeps the studio calm and safe. If you do need to bring someone, just let us know in advance.

Eyelash Extensions

What are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are individual, lightweight faux-mink lashes applied one at a time to your own natural lashes to add length, curl and volume — from a natural classic look to dramatic Russian volume. At Beauty Time we custom-map every set to your eye shape.

How long do eyelash extensions last?

Eyelash extensions typically last 4–6 weeks, depending on your natural lash growth cycle and how well you care for them. To keep a full, fresh look we recommend a refill every 2–3 weeks, since your natural lashes shed regularly and take the attached extensions with them.

Do eyelash extensions damage your natural lashes?

No. Applied correctly by an experienced lash artist, extensions shouldn’t damage your natural lashes. We carefully choose the right length and weight for each natural lash to support healthy growth and long-term lash health. Damage usually comes from extensions that are improperly applied, too heavy, or pulled and picked at.

Does getting eyelash extensions hurt?

No — a proper application is painless. You lie back with your eyes closed, and most clients find it so relaxing they fall asleep. You should never feel pulling, pinching or stinging; if you do, just let your artist know.

What’s the difference between classic, hybrid, and volume lashes?

Classic is one extension per natural lash for a natural, mascara-look finish. Volume (2D–10D Russian) uses multiple ultra-fine extensions per lash for a fuller, fluffier look. Hybrid blends classic and volume for texture somewhere in between. We’ll recommend the right style for your eyes and lifestyle.

What do the numbers (2D, 3D, 4D, 10D) mean?

The “D” is how many ultra-fine extensions are fanned onto each natural lash — 2D is two, 10D is ten. More fans mean more volume and density. Beauty Time offers Classic, 2D/3D, 4D, 5D–6D and 10D Russian volume.

How much do eyelash extensions cost in Ottawa?

At Beauty Time: Classic $65 refill / $95 new set; 2D/3D Russian $75 / $105; 4D $85 / $115; 5D–6D $95 / $125; 10D $125 / $155. Prices are subject to change.

Can I wear mascara with lash extensions?

We don’t recommend it — mascara (especially waterproof) breaks down the adhesive and clumps the extensions. The whole point is that you can skip mascara and wake up ready.

Can I get my lashes wet or shower with extensions?

Avoid water, steam and heavy sweat for the first 24–48 hours while the adhesive fully cures. After that you can shower and cleanse normally — in fact, gently cleansing your lashes keeps them healthy and long-lasting.

How do I make my lash extensions last longer?

Keep them clean and dry for the first 48 hours, then cleanse gently with a lash-safe foam. Avoid oil-based products and waterproof mascara, don’t rub or pick, brush them daily with a clean spoolie, and book a refill every 2–3 weeks.

Can I sleep on my side with eyelash extensions?

Yes — but sleeping face-down or pressing your lashes into the pillow can twist, bend or shed them early. If you’re a side sleeper, position your face near the edge of the pillow so your lashes hang slightly off it instead of rubbing against it.

Can I get eyelash extensions if I have sensitive eyes?

Yes. Many clients with sensitive eyes wear extensions comfortably. We use professional-grade adhesives and can talk through suitable options at your appointment. If you have a history of allergies or sensitivities, we may recommend a patch test first.

Lash Lift & Tint

What is a lash lift and tint?

A lash lift is a semi-permanent treatment that curls and lifts your own natural lashes from the base — think of it as a perm for your lashes. A tint darkens them for a mascara-like effect. Together they give a wide-eyed, low-maintenance look using only your natural lashes, with no extensions added.

How long does a lash lift last?

A lash lift typically lasts 6–8 weeks, fading gradually as your natural lashes shed and regrow. If you add a tint, the colour generally lasts about 3–4 weeks.

Lash lift or eyelash extensions — which should I choose?

A lash lift enhances your own lashes with zero fills and the lowest maintenance — lovely if you already have decent natural lash length. Extensions add noticeable length and volume and need a refill every 2–3 weeks. We’re happy to help you choose at your appointment.

Can I wear mascara after a lash lift?

Yes, after the first 2 hours. Choose a water-based or tubing mascara rather than waterproof, since oil-based waterproof removers can soften the lift over time.

What’s the aftercare for a lash lift and tint?

For the first 2 hours, avoid water, steam, sweat, oil-based products, mascara and lash curlers, and try not to sleep face-down. After that, handle your lashes gently, skip mechanical curlers, and avoid heavy rubbing.

How much is a lash lift at Beauty Time?

Lash Lift $69; Lash Lift & Tint $85; add Brow Lamination & Tint $90; eyelash tint $25; eyebrow tint $17. Prices subject to change.

Is a lash lift safe?

Yes, when it’s performed by a trained professional with proper products and timing. We protect your eyes throughout and never leave solutions on longer than recommended.

Can I reverse over-curled lashes from another salon?

Yes — we offer a correction service to relax lashes that were over-curled elsewhere ($40).

Microblading & Brows

What is microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo technique that creates crisp, natural-looking hair strokes in the brow using a fine hand tool and pigment. It’s ideal for filling gaps, defining shape, or rebuilding sparse brows.

What’s the difference between microblading, nano brows and powder brows?

Microblading and nano brows both create natural, hair-like strokes — microblading by hand, nano with a digital machine and a single fine needle. Powder (or ombré) brows give a soft, filled-in, makeup-style finish using shading. We’ll recommend the best technique for your skin and the look you want.

How long do microbladed brows last?

Microblading typically lasts about 1–3 years, powder brows often 1–3 years, and nano brows around 1–2+ years. Longevity depends on your skin type, lifestyle and sun exposure — oily skin and sun fade pigment faster. A yearly colour boost keeps them looking fresh.

Does microblading hurt?

Most clients feel only mild discomfort. We apply a topical numbing cream before and during the service, so many people describe it as light scratching — or barely feel it at all.

Which brow technique is best for oily skin?

Powder/ombré and nano brows generally hold better on oily and sensitive skin, while microblading suits normal-to-dry skin best. We’ll assess your skin and advise at your consultation.

What is the microblading healing process?

Full healing takes about 4–6 weeks. Your brows look darker and bolder for the first few days, then lighten as any flaking happens within roughly 7–10 days, before settling into their final, softer colour. A touch-up perfects the result.

Is a touch-up included?

Yes — each of our brow services ($550 + tax) includes your first touch-up to perfect the shape and colour.

How much do microblading and brows cost?

Microblading, Nano Brows, Powder Brows and Shading/Ombré are each $550 + tax, including the first touch-up. Prices subject to change.

How should I care for my brows while they heal?

Keep them clean and dry as directed, avoid heavy sweating, swimming, saunas and direct sun during healing, don’t pick or scratch any flaking, and apply any aftercare ointment exactly as instructed. We’ll send you home with full aftercare guidance.

Brow Lamination

What is brow lamination?

Brow lamination is a non-permanent treatment that relaxes and re-sets your natural brow hairs into a fuller, brushed-up, on-trend shape — no tattoo required. It’s perfect for taming unruly brows or creating a fluffier look.

How long does brow lamination last?

About 4–6 weeks, following your natural brow growth cycle, with simple aftercare.

Can I add a tint to brow lamination?

Yes — a tint deepens the colour and pairs beautifully with lamination for added definition. We offer Brow Lamination at $80, or Brow Lamination & Tint at $90.

What’s the aftercare for brow lamination?

Keep your brows dry and avoid steam, heavy sweat and makeup on the area for the first 2 hours. After that, brush them into shape daily and apply a nourishing oil if recommended to keep the hairs conditioned.

Waxing

What waxing services do you offer?

We offer facial and body waxing, including eyebrows, upper/lower lip, chin, sideburns, forehead, full face, neck, underarms, half/full arms, lower/upper/full legs, bikini, Brazilian and 3-week Brazilian maintenance.

How much does waxing cost?

A sample of our menu: Eyebrows $13, Upper/Lower Lip $10, Chin $12, Full Face $45, Underarms $17, Half Arms $22, Full Arms $40, Lower Legs $28, Full Legs $58, Bikini $28, Brazilian $58, 3-Week Brazilian $39. See the full price list on our website. Prices subject to change.

How long does my hair need to be for waxing?

About a quarter-inch — roughly 2–3 weeks of growth. If it’s too short the wax can’t grip the hair; if it’s very long, we’ll trim it first to make the service more comfortable.

Does waxing hurt?

There’s a quick sting as the wax is removed, but it’s brief and most clients find it very manageable — and it gets easier with regular appointments as the hair grows back finer.

How should I prepare for and care for a wax?

Gently exfoliate a day or two before (not the same day), avoid retinoids on the area for a few days beforehand, and skip sun, hot baths, saunas and heavy sweat for 24 hours after. Exfoliating between appointments helps prevent ingrown hairs.

How often should I get waxed?

Every 3–4 weeks keeps you smooth and trains the hair to grow back finer and more evenly over time.

Can I get waxed while using retinol?

Retinol and certain acne medications can make the skin more sensitive. Please let us know what skincare products you use so we can recommend the safest option.

Teeth Whitening

Do you offer teeth whitening?

Yes — we offer a cosmetic teeth whitening service. Regular $250, or an introductory price of $150.

How long does teeth whitening last?

Results vary by person and habits, but typically several months. Limiting staining foods and drinks (coffee, tea, red wine) and good oral hygiene help your results last longer.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Our cosmetic whitening is designed to be gentle on enamel. Some people experience temporary, mild sensitivity that settles quickly. Let us know about any dental concerns beforehand.

Will teeth whitening work on crowns, veneers, or fillings?

Whitening brightens natural teeth but doesn’t typically change the colour of crowns, veneers, or composite fillings.

What should I do after my teeth whitening treatment?

For the best results, drink only water for the first hour. For the next 48 hours your teeth are more prone to staining, so try to avoid highly pigmented or acidic foods and drinks — things like coffee and tea, red wine, curry, tomato-based sauces, dark berries, dark sodas and soy sauce. To keep your smile bright, brush twice daily with a whitening toothpaste as part of your regular routine. Results vary from person to person depending on lifestyle habits and the natural shade of your teeth.

Aftercare & Longevity (Quick Reference)

What’s the golden rule for lash and brow aftercare?

Keep the area clean and dry during the initial cure/heal window, avoid oil and friction, don’t pick, and follow the specific aftercare we give you. Gentle, consistent care is what makes your results last.

Why did my lashes/brows fade or shed faster than expected?

Common causes: oil-based skincare or makeup, waterproof mascara, rubbing or picking, lots of steam, sweat or sun, or simply a fast natural growth cycle. Following aftercare and booking timely refills/touch-ups keeps everything looking its best.

What is your cancellation / rescheduling policy?

Do you require a deposit?

For semi-permanent makeup services (microblading, nano, powder/ombré brows), a $150 deposit is required to book. It secures your appointment and goes toward your total at checkout.
