Waxing Dos and Dont's What You Need To Know

Waxing dos and dont’s and what you need to know.  There are many forms of hair removal available to us today. One of the most convenient and long lasting options is waxing or sugaring.  In this blog we’ll explain all the dos and don’ts of waxing and what you need to know so you can be prepared at your next hair removal appointment.

Do:

The most important thing to do before your session is to always inform your wax specialist of any and all skincare routines and lotions that you have used. It’s very important to let your technician know if you have used products like Retinal, proactive products Alpha hydroxy acid or Glycolic acid as these make your skin thinner and may cause tearing when waxed.

If you are sensitive to pain we suggest you take an Advil or ibuprofen at least 20 minutes before your appointment to help ease the area being waxed

Try to relax because if you are more tense you maybe more sensitive to the waxing treatment.

Dont’s

Do not use perfumed products or lotions on the area that has been recently waxed, because this may lead to skin irritation.

Don’t go into a sauna or have a hot bath directly after having your wax session because your skin is still very sensitive and hot water can lead to more sensitivity and redness of your skin.

Don’t drink coffee or alcohol for at least 24 hours before getting  your waxed because they can also contribute to the sensitivity of the area being waxed.

Side Effects of Waxing

As with all skin treatment  there are side effects here are a few that you should be aware of  before you get your treatment

Redness: Waxing can cause redness or pinkness in the area that got treated. Your lotions and even your everyday makeup can irate that redness and make it last for days after.

Bleeding : Waxing can also cause bleeding, but that is normal . This happens because when you wax part of your epidermis can is being removed with the wax. This mostly happens if you have used products like retinol or glycolic acid or recently had a facial treatment that used these products. Its recommended that you do not use waxing as a hair removal option if you are using these facial treatments

Allergic reactions: There are many wax products in the market today, to see how your skin will react to any particular product we recommend a skin test for allergic reactions. And again if you have used certain skin and blemish products your sensitivity will be greater.

Pimples: Waxing removes your hair follicle from the root after this hair is removed you may have a few pimples at the pores where the hair has been taken out. With proper cleaning with basic soap and water your pimples should fade in a few days. To prevent pimples it’s recommended that you gently exfoliate the area that will be waxed and don’t use any alcohol based products after exfoliating
